► Hexacosyl (E)-ferulate and 1-methyl-4-quinolone were isolated from Echinops nanus. ► Hexacosyl (E)-ferulate might be a chemotaxonomic marker in the genus Echinops. ► Echinothiophenegenol were isolated from Echinops transiliensis. ► E. transiliensis might be chemotaxonomically associated to Echinops grijisii.
