Hypertension Research
Hypertension is defined as a chronic elevation in blood pressure with a systolic pressure over 140 mmHg and a diastolic pressure over 90 mmHg.The majority of hypertension is primary - that is, an increase in blood pressure with no underlying cause - yet pathologies that affect the kidney or endocrine system may also trigger hypertension. This is known as secondary hypertension. The exact mechanism of primary hypertension is yet to be elucidated, though dysfunctions in mechanisms that regulate vascular tone, both directly and indirectly, have been identified as having a major influence on hypertension.

KW 3902
Rolofylline (KW-3902) is a potent, selective adenosine A1 receptor antagonist that is under development for the treatment of patients with acute congestive heart failure and renal impairment. Rolofylline is metabolized primarily to the pharmacologically active M1-trans and M1-cis metabolites by cytochrome P450 (CYP450). Rolofylline is alleviating the presynaptic dysfunction and restores neuronal activity as well as dendritic spine levels in vitro, is an interesting candidate to combat the hypometabolism and neuronal dysfunction associated with Tau-induced neurodegenerative diseases.
