Sleep Research
Sleep is characterized by altered consciousness, it is split into two distinct stages- rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM. The circadian clock controls the pattern of sleep and wakefulness. It is regulated by the light levels, temperature, metabolites, neurotransmitters, neuropeptides, and neurohormones, which cause a daily fluctuation in expression levels of many sleep-related genes.

Topiramate
Topiramate (McN 4853) is a broad-spectrum antiepileptic agent. Topiramate is a GluR5 receptor antagonist. Topiramate produces its antiepileptic effects through enhancement of GABAergic activity, inhibition of kainate/AMPA receptors, inhibition of voltage-sensitive sodium and calcium channels, increases in potassium conductance, and inhibition of carbonic anhydrase.
