Biological Activity

Momordicin I has been isolated from dichloromethane extract of leaves Momordica charantia, L, the isolation was done by fractionation the dichloromethane extract followed by bioassay using artemia salina,L larvae. [1]
Momordicin I inhibits the population growth and fecundity of O. furnacalis, and its inhibition on the activities of trehalase, alkaline and acid phosphatase of larvae may be a major mechanism of action. [2]
Momordicin I and II have significant damage to the cytomembrane, can inhibit SL-1 cells growth, the mode of action by which momordicins inhibit insect cell growth and development may be useful in the development of novel pest control formulations containing cucurbitane-type triterpene glycosides. [3]
