Callicarpa pedunculata R. Brown

Callicarpa pedunculata is species of beautyberry. It is a small tree or shrub. It produces dark-purple berries that are drupes. The leaves are green to brown. It is grown as an ornamental shrub. The fruit is astringent and too acidic to be eaten by people. The whole plant is analgesic, antiphlogistic and haemostatic. a decoction is used in the treatment of haemoptysis, haematemesis, nose bleed, haematuria, traumatic bleeding, traumatic injuries and rheumatoid arthritis. Five abietane diterpenes were isolated from CHCl3-solved potion of EtOH extraction from Callicarpa pedunculata R. Brown. On the basis of spectroscopic analysis, these compounds were identified as dehydroabietic acid (1), 7-hydroxydehydroabietic acid (2), 7-hydroxydehydroabietic acid (3), 7-oxodehydroabietic acid (4), and 6,8,11,13-abietatrien-18-oic acid (5). These compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time.
